July 2026 Message from the Senior Vice President, Provost, and Chief Academic Officer, UTMB

Dear colleagues,

I hope everyone is enjoying the summer so far. While this is traditionally the time when work slows down for many of us, there is no shortage of exciting activity and accomplishments across UTMB.

First, I would like to extend my sincere congratulations to Dr. Vineet Gupta and his team on an outstanding Texas Brain Economy Summit. This remarkable event brought together more than 500 leaders from health care, business, academia, government, and other sectors to engage in meaningful conversations about brain health, one of the most critical issues shaping the future of our communities, workforce, and economy.

The summit showed our institution’s leadership in this important space and generated momentum that will inspire new partnerships, innovative ideas, and actionable solutions across Texas and beyond. I look forward to seeing the impact of these efforts in the months and years ahead.

I am also delighted to congratulate the recipients of the 2026 Faculty Excellence and Lifetime Achievement Awards, who are featured in this edition. These distinguished faculty members exemplify our commitment to excellence in all our mission areas, and their achievements reflect the extraordinary talent and dedication found throughout our institution.

We will have the opportunity to celebrate these honorees – and all of our outstanding faculty – at the Third Annual Faculty Recognition Reception on Sept. 10. I am proud that this event has become a meaningful tradition over the past two years, providing us with a forum to recognize the contributions and accomplishments of our faculty community. Please save the date and plan to join us!

Sincerely yours,
