Dena Bannan’s journey at the University of Texas Medical Branch began in 1998 when she served as an Administrative Assistant and Trainer in the Health Education Department of UTMB Healthcare Systems, Inc. After a brief separation, Dena returned to UTMB in 2010, joining the Office of the Provost, where she contributed in various capacities over the years. In August 2024, Dena transitioned to the Office of Faculty Affairs, where she continues to embrace opportunities to expand her expertise and contribute to the university’s academic mission.
In her current role, Dena plays an integral part in advancing faculty development and engagement by overseeing the coordination of several cornerstone programs, including Advancing Research through Mentorship (ARM), the Academy of Master Teachers (AMT), and Teaching Excellence And Mentorship (TEAM). She provides critical executive support to OFA leadership, including calendar and strategic scheduling management for Dr. Amanda Persons and Dr. Holly West, ensuring alignment with institutional priorities. Dena also partners in the execution of faculty workshops and events, where her keen attention to detail and ability to anticipate needs ensure seamless operations and a positive participant experience.
Beyond logistics, Dena serves as a trusted resource to colleagues and new team members. She leverages her institutional knowledge and commitment to excellence to foster collaboration, build efficiencies, and empower others to thrive in their roles. Her contributions not only strengthen OFA’s internal operations but also directly support UTMB’s broader mission of cultivating faculty success and advancing educational innovation.
