Dr. Monroe joined the Department of Family Medicine in 2025 and sees patients at the Family Medicine Clinic - Dickinson location.
Dr. Monroe previously served as the Cullen Trust for Higher Education Provost Chair and Professo, with tenure, of the Department of Family and Community Medicine and Senior Dean of Education and Senior Vice President, Academic Affairs and Faculty Development at Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) in Houston, Texas.. At BCM, Dr. Monroe oversaw the Medical School, the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, the School of Allied Health Sciences, and the National School of Tropical Medicine. In addition she had oversight for Faculty Development, Professionalism, Diversity, and GME programs across BCM and its affiliated teaching hospitals. She also serves as a member of the BCM Academic Council.
She formerly served as the Chief Academic Officer, Vice Dean for Educational Affairs and Professor of Family Medicine at the Morsani College of Medicine (MCOM), University of South Florida, Tampa, FL. At USF MCOM, Dr. Monroe provided oversight for the undergraduate medical education programs, the physical therapy program and the masters programs in graduate studies. She developed a new medical education program in partnership with Lehigh Valley Health Network that integrates curriculum and training in emotional intelligence, leadership, values-based patient-centered care, quality and safety and interprofessional team-based care. She led a professionalism initiative at MCOM that engaged senior leaders, faculty, residents and students. Dr. Monroe’s scholarly interests include physician-patient communication, cross-cultural communication, leadership training and mentoring students and faculty.
Dr. Monroe earned her MD degree from Indiana University School of Medicine, and completed an internship in psychiatry at Georgetown University Medical Center in Washington, DC, and a residency in family medicine at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, IN.
