The UTMB Health Department of Family Medicine is pleased to announce that Jun J. Mao, MD, MSCE will be presenting a lunchtime lecture on Integrative Medicine Oncology, a Resident Didactic Workshop and Family Medicine Grand Rounds on August 22, 2013. Dr. Mao is an Associate Professor and Director of Integrative Medicine Department of Family Medicine and Community Health at Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Mao is also Chair of PENN Integrative Oncology Working Group Abramson Comprehensive Cancer Center.
Dr. Mao is a board certified family physician and a licensed acupuncturist, he combines eastern and western approaches to treat patients with a specific clinical focus on symptom management for cancer patients and survivors. Dr. Mao’s research program centers on investigating the effects, mechanisms, and integration of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) for symptom management among cancer patients and survivors. His research program has been funded by the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine, the National Cancer Institute, the American Cancer Society, and the Pennsylvania Department of Aging.
Lunchtime Lecture
The lunchtime lecture is presented in partnership with UTMB's Cancer Center and The Department of Family Medicine. The lecture is titled Toward Personalized Integrative Oncology: Acupuncture and Aromatase Inhibitor Associated Arthralgia. The lecture will be from 12:00pm-1:00pm in Levin Hall, conference room 5.521.
Resident Didactic Workshop
Dr. Mao will offer a presentation and workshop for Family Medicine residents on acupuncture in primary care as part of their didactic lecture.
Grand Rounds
Beginning at 5:30pm, The Department of Family Medicine is proud to present Grand Rounds featuring Jun J. Mao, MD, MSCE speaking on Primary Care and Cancer Survivorship in conference room 2.268 on the second floor of the Primary Care Pavilion. The event is open to UTMB Health faculty, residents, and students. Light refreshments will be served. Attendees may park in the Primary Care Pavilion parking lot, and should plan to enter the building through Entrance A.
