Each year, UTMB Health offers health screening to local children and teens in preparation for summer activities and school sports. In 2014, 12 family medicine residents worked side-by-side with four faculty members to provide these low-cost services at UTMB Health's annual Student Sports Physicals event, held June 21, 2014 at the Specialty Care Center at Victory Lakes.
The family medicine team joined physicians specializing in sports medicine, orthopedics, cardiology, and pediatrics, as well as physical therapists to provide more than 70 screenings.
The team was led by faculty members Drs. Barbara Thompson, Tuere Coulter, Myers Hurt, III, and Jennifer Raley. Residents included Drs. Juan Carlos Hernandez, Sameera Jabeen, Naiomi Jamal, Annie Jan, Sara Javed, Manju Mahajan, Preet Mangat, William McFarland, Osama Mohamed, Ravi Morumuru, Laura Porterfield, Monica Prado, and Hammad Qureshi.
