The Texas Academy of Family Physicians (TAFP) has recognized  the UTMB Health Family Medicine Interest Group (FMIG) with their 2021 Award of Excellence.

Family Medicine Interest Groups are vital to engaging students early in medical school. They serve as the entry point in many cases and lead to the students joining TAFP/AAFP, attending programs designed for medical students, getting involved with TAFP– all of which encourages them to consider family medicine for their career.

The FMIG organizations are rated on a 5-point Likert scale of demonstration of activity in the following: structure and operation; community service; exposing students to family medicine and family physicians; promoting the value of family medicine as primary care; professional development and measures of success.

Receiving this award for the 5th year in a row is a testament to the collaboration of the entire FMIG group, the UTMB Family Medicine Medical Student Education Faculty, our Residency Program and our wonderful Staff.  This is truly a measurement of the strength of our program and our commitment to providing innovative and quality medical education.
