UTMB Health faculty, staff, and students attended the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine (STFM) Medical Student Education Conference this year in Austin, TX, February 1 - 4, 2018. UTMB was well represented with a total of six presentations and one poster.

Galveston Island, Texas – From November 9 to 12, 2017, the Texas Academy of Family Physicians (TAFP) hosted its 2017 Annual Session and Primary Care Summit in Galveston.

The UTMB Health Department of Family Medicine is pleased to announce that Samuel Mathis, MD has been appointed to represent the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) for 2017-2018 as a Resident Delegate to the American Medical Association's Resident and Fellow Section (AMA-RFS).

The Texas Academy of Family Physicians (TAFP) was on hand to observe the UTMB Health Family Medicine Interest Group's (FMIG) annual Primary Care Procedures at the Primary Care Pavilion, or PCP at the PCP as it's commonly known.

The UTMB Health Family Medicine Interest Group (FMIG), along with the Department of Family Medicine, hosted the 7th Annual Primary Care Procedures at the Primary Care Pavilion (PCP2) Thursday evening, October 12th from 5:30 until 8:30pm.

The UTMB Health Family Medicine Interest Group (FMIG) has rescheduled their annual residency fair to take place on Wednesday, September 13, 2017 at 5:30pm in Jennie Sealy Hospital 2.506.

The UTMB Health Department of Family Medicine is pleased to share that as of 7 a.m. on Friday, September 1, the institution has declared an end to the emergency status related to Hurricane Harvey. Academic offices and clinics have opened, and will operate their normal business hours.

UTMB Health continues to be operating at emergency status as of Monday, August 28. Jennie Sealy Hospital in Galveston, League City Campus Hospital in League City, and Angleton-Danbury Hospital in Angleton continue to be open, with emergency departments available to the community. One of the Department of Family Medicine's clinics, Family Medicine Clinic – Island West, is open today, Monday, August 28.

The Texas Academy of Family Physicians (TAFP) announced the 2017 winners of its Texas FMIG Program of Excellence Award in August 2017. The UTMB Health Family Medicine Interest Group (FMIG) was awarded first place.

On Saturday May 20, 2017, the University of Texas Medical Branch Department of Family Medicine hosted the First Annual Regional Family Medicine Residency Research Symposium. The symposium showcased the research activities of family medicine residents and fellows from programs in the Galveston-Houston metro area.

The UTMB Health Department of Family Medicine is now accepting applications for the 2016-2017 Weldon G. Kolb, MD Scholarship. The scholarship is awarded to 3rd and 4th year medical student(s) at UTMB Health who meet high academic standards and express and interest in pursuing a career in family medicine. Past recipients have gone on to family medicine residencies or to practice family medicine.
