As Hurricane Harvey pushed ashore and brought unprecedented destruction across Southeast Texas, UTMB’s facilities and people performed exceptionally well. Our health care teams continued to deliver world-class care at each of UTMB’s three campuses. Throughout the storm, UTMB’s indomitable spirit was in abundance—a spirit of innovation and service, commitment and resolve.
Yet the UTMB community did not go untouched by Harvey’s wrath. While our people worked, caring for others in some of the most terrifying of moments, many of their homes flooded. And a number of UTMB students live in areas hardest hit by the flooding. Some were able to evacuate with little more than the clothes on their backs. Students and staff alike, many lost everything.
To ease their recovery, the university’s leadership has worked to establish two ways for individuals to help:
STUDENT RECOVERY FUND
The UTMB Student Recovery Fund offers you a way to show your support for our students in this time of need. Your generosity will ensure that our students can get back to the business of being students, preparing to become tomorrow’s caretakers of our health, tomorrow’s biomedical research pioneers.
Your contribution can be made through the Student Recovery Fund website or can be mailed to:
UTMB Development Office
301 University Blvd.
Galveston, TX 77555-0148
On behalf of the university’s leadership, faculty, staff and students, we want to express our sincere appreciation for your support of our students.
If you are a UTMB student affected by Hurricane Harvey and in need of assistance, please contact the Office of the Dean in your school.
EMPLOYEE RECOVERY FUND
A mantra at UTMB is “working together to work wonders.” As Harvey came ashore and stunned the nation with its destructive power, the people at UTMB set aside their personal concerns and focused on providing life-saving care or needed support to others. Many of our employees have been directly affected by Harvey, in many cases losing everything.
Our hope is that once again, we’ll come together to work another wonder, to provide the emotional, physical and financial support to get our friends and colleagues back on their feet. Working through a critical community partner, the United Way, an account has been created to support UTMB employees who suffered significant losses, as they piece together their homes and lives after Harvey’s dreadful blow.
Visit the United Way to provide support.
The deadline for applications for assistance was noon on Friday, Oct. 6, 2017.
