A section of 11th St. on the UTMB Galveston campus will close beginning Mar. 5 to allow a new water line to be run to the Schools of Health Professions and Nursing Building. The water line will increase the water supply to the building to support a new fire suppression sprinkler system that will serve all four floors of the structure.
Workers will be tapping into a city water line just west of 11th St. for the work, which is expected to be complete by Mar. 14.
What to Expect
- Location: 11th St. south of The Strand and adjacent to the Schools of Health Professions and Nursing Building.
- Duration: Approximately two weeks, from Mar. 5 to 14 (weather conditions may affect timeline)
Traffic Impact:
- 11th Street in the area will be closed to through traffic.
- The north end of the work zone will be entirely closed to vehicles, preventing street passage.
- The south side of 11th Street will remain open to support essential deliveries and drop-offs.
- Barricades, signage, and flaggers will be in place to safely direct vehicles and pedestrians, and adjusted as needed.
Please exercise caution in the area. For questions, please contact Kyle Gerondale at kjgerond@utmb.edu
