New One Health Podcast Infectious Science Release

UTMB and the Galveston National Lab have launched Infectious Science, the brainchild of a team led by Dr. Dennis Bente and Dr. Matt Dacso. The podcast will share stories of new and emerging diseases, research personalities, and the One Health approach to understanding diseases and preventing their spread.

According to Dr. Bente, over the past four years, the number of people listening to podcasts has grown 100 percent, and over 116 million Americans listen to podcasts every month. Podcasts are a great way to build a genuine connection with an audience. For listeners, it’s an easy way to digest interesting information while doing daily tasks like walking the dog or doing chores around the house.

The title, Infectious Science, is cleverly named with a dual meaning: the content is focused on infectious disease science to deliver content to listeners in an exciting way that inspires, educates, and makes it “contagious,” meaning listeners want to share it with friends, colleagues, and families.

The podcast is dynamic, including interviews with experts and a “viral minute” that provides nuggets of information in 60 seconds. Career profiles and examples of One Health research are also part of the platform.
The first episode to be revealed will focus on how scent dogs can reliably detect SARS-CoV-2 infected patients. Future episodes will highlight and feature experts from UTMB and collaborators around the world covering a broad range of infectious disease topics with a One Health spin.

You can stream now on major platforms, including Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Google Podcasts and more.
