Description:The UTMB Flow Cytometry and Cell Sorting Core Facility is in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology. The flow lab can provide assistance with protocol development and implementation, as well as data analysis and presentation. The data from the Aria and Fortessa are available campus-wide over the university's intranet for one month, which allows investigators to analyze and store data in their own labs.
Instruments:

BD LSR-Fortessa™
The LSRII-Fortessa has 5 lasers and is able to measure 18 colors. An
ultraviolet laser at 355nm, a violet at 405nm, a blue green at 488nm, a
yellow at 561nm, and a red laser at 640nm. All are high powered laser
light sources.

BD FACSAria™ Fusion Cell Sorter
The cell sorter can separate up to four populations from complex mixtures of cells. The four liquid streams shown here illustrate the spatial separation of the carrier streams during 4-way sorting. The cell sorter is housed in a biosafety cabinet and live sorting can be performed at BSL-2.

Bio-Rad BioPlex 200 (multiplex system)
The Bio-Rad Bio-Plex System is a flexible, easy-to-use microplate-based multiplex immunoassay system. It enables quantification of up to 100 different analytes in a single sample. The system comprises all products for a complete workflow.
Core Lab Support (usage)
The Flow Cytometry Core lab has assisted in over
- 20,000 experiments since it was first established.
- Over 30 departments have been served.
- Over 250 Principle Investigators have utilized the facility over its 22 years of operation.
- 30 Labs have FloJo Software Site License.
Training
The
core lab offers training on our BD LSRII-Fortessa to investigators who
need to run the instrument independently. This offers the advantage of
instrument usage after hours and during holidays.
Flow Cytometry Equipment Scheduling
Appointment requests must be emailed in advance to yu2liang@utmb.edu.
The scheduler can be accessed at
http://utmbflow.calendarhost.com/cgi-bin/calweb/calweb.cgi To view the
whole schedule you should pull down the menu in the upper right and
switch to the Merged Calendar. When viewing the online schedule, be
sure you are looking at the Merged Calendar so that you can see the big
picture as to what work is already booked on all instruments, and where
the lab manager's time is already reserved. The lab manager's time is
indicated where the name "Griffin" appears.
Please note: An appointment is valid only after a request for time is confirmed by email from the flow cytometry lab. Cancellations must be made by email at least 1 hour in advance. Fees can be viewed here.
