2009 Professionalism Summit
Biennially, the UTMB Professionalism Committee hosts a summit to raise awareness about the importance of professionalism. The keynote speaker for the April 8, 2009 summit was David C. Leach, M.D., retired Executive Director of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education. The presentation was entitled, " Creating a Culture of Professionalism: Reconnecting Soul and Role".
2011 Professionalism Summit
Biennially, the UTMB Professionalism Committee hosts a summit to raise awareness about the importance of professionalism. The keynote speaker for the April 1, 2011 summit was Gerald Hickson, MD, Vanderbilt University Medical Center and Director for the Vanderbilt Center for Patient and Professional Advocacy. The presentation was entitled, "A Complementary Approach to Professionalism: Identifying, Measuring and Addressing Unprofessional Behaviors".

The keynote speaker for the August 7, 2014 summit was Barbara Balik, RN, EdD Principal, Common Fire Healthcare Consulting Senior Faculty, Institute for Healthcare Improvement Board of Governors, National Patient Safety Foundation. The presentation was entitled, "Interprofessionalism - Why Bother?".
Obstacles of Interprofessional Healthcare
The Student Honor Pledge Committee hosted a forum for students from all schools in which a panel of Faculty members discussed, "Obstacles of Interprofessional Healthcare."
Tough Talk: Having a Constructive Conversation - Faculty

PA White Coat Ceremony
Eighty-nine students donned their white coats and pledged their professional oath in a ceremony at 6 p.m. Friday, June 26, in Levin Hall Main Auditorium.

Dr. Anish Bhardwaj Attends Vanderbilt Course re: Professionalism
Dr. Anish Bhardwaj previously attended the Vanderbilt course. When he met with the Professionalism Committee he said, "... the experience provided unique insights into the importance of promoting professionalism in our workplace among all stakeholders and associates and is in keeping with the mission, vision, and values of UTMB.

New Student Orientation - School of Nursing January 2016
School of Nursing Orientation included the opportunity for the Interprofessional Education and Practice Department, to share information about UTMB's initiatives and activities that promote health professions working together to improve patient care.
