The Research Division The Department of Radiation Oncology

About the Division

Cancer is the biological result of uncontrolled cell division, leading to the formation of tumors that can spread to other parts of the body and grow without regulation. UTMB is one of the few radiation oncology departments in the nation with dedicated basic science laboratories. We are uniquely positioned and privileged to conduct innovative research through collaborations with:

UTMB-Galveston National Laboratory
One of only 15 Biosafety Level 4 (BSL-4) laboratories in the United States.

UTMB–NASA Aerospace Medicine Program
Home to the nation’s only ACGME-accredited Aerospace Medicine Residency Program.

Fundamentals of Radiation Biology
Our dedicated radiation biology laboratories support foundational research in radiobiological mechanisms and therapy development.

UTMB Artificial Intelligence Research Program
A pioneering initiative exploring the integration of AI into medical research, diagnostics, and treatment planning.
