Measles outbreaks in the Americas: PAHO calls for strengthened vaccination and surveillance

As of epidemiological week 8 in 2025 (ending February 21, 2025), a total of 268 measles cases, including one death, have been confirmed in Argentina, Canada, Mexico, and the United States. This marks a significant increase compared to the same period in 2024, when only 60 cases were reported during the first eight weeks of the year. In response to this surge, the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) has issued an epidemiological alert for the Americas.
