The Oklahoma State Department of Health (OSDH) has issued a health advisory urging clinicians and laboratories to remain vigilant for potential cases of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) A(H5N1) amid heightened seasonal flu activity. The advisory recommends enhanced surveillance and early detection, particularly for hospitalized patients with novel influenza A infections, to prevent delays in identifying severe cases. With outbreaks affecting wild birds, poultry, and even dairy cows, OSDH is expanding its sentinel surveillance network to monitor emerging influenza threats.
