CIDRAP: Ethiopia Faces its First Marburg Outbreak, which has Proved Deadly

Ethiopia has reported its first outbreak of Marburg virus, with several confirmed and suspected cases and a number of deaths in the south. Health officials are monitoring contacts, and early findings suggest similarities to strains seen elsewhere in the region. Marburg is a serious hemorrhagic fever related to Ebola, spread through bodily fluids and often linked to fruit bats. There is currently no vaccine, and the illness can be highly fatal.
