Anne Hudson Jones, PhD is the Hobby Family Professor in Medical Humanities at the Institute for Bioethics and Health Humanities at UTMB-Galveston. When she joined UTMB's Institute for the Medical Humanities (IMH) in 1979, Jones was one of the first literature scholars in the country to hold a faculty position in a medical school. A founding editor in 1982 of the flagship journal of her field Literature and Medicine, Jones served as editor-in-chief for more than a decade and remains a senior consulting editor of the journal. She has published widely in humanities and biomedical journals and has published two books: Images of Nurses in History, Art and Literature and, with Faith McLellan, Ethical Issues in Biomedical Publication. Jones has received many awards for her research and teaching, from groups such as the American College of Physicians, the American Medical Writers Association, and the American Osler Society, as well as UTMB’s Academy of Master Teachers Lifetime Achievement Award in Education, and the University of Texas Regents Outstanding Teaching Award. Last year she was named a UTMB Living Legend and this year received its Rose Grundfest Schneider, PhD Award for excellence in medical humanities.

The ASBH Lifetime Achievement Award is the Society's highest honor. It recognizes a distinguished individual for excellence in bioethics and/or the health humanities. It is given in recognition of longstanding achievement in bioethics and/or the health humanities.
