Office Hours

8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, with exception of University holidays.

Welcome to our practice.  We hope to provide you with efficient, up-to-date health care for pregnant women.  Please read the following information to acquaint yourself with our practice.

Appointments

When you schedule your appointment, please provide insurance information, to avoid registration delays on the day of your appointment.  Payment of any co-pays is due prior to the initiation of the visit.  The most common reasons for rescheduling patients after their arrival is for not having a co-pay available and arriving late for the scheduled appointment.  If you are running late, please call.  We may be able to find another time on the same day.

After-Hour Emergencies

Our patients do have access to emergent care when the office is closed.  Consultation with the physician on call is available via 772-2222.  Please be aware that the on call physician is covering the obstetrical service.  Immediate response may not be possible due to involvement in another patient’s care.  Please tell the UTMED phone service what the nature of the emergency is so that they can communicate to the physician the degree of urgency.  Prescription refills will not be provided during after hours.

Phone Calls

Due to the volume of patient visits in our office, we have a large volume of phone calls.  If you have an urgent issue, please tell the person answering the phone the nature of the problem and degree of urgency.  We return phone calls while we are actively seeing patients in the clinic.  Please leave alternate phone numbers where we can reach you.  We make every effort to return phone calls received by 3:00 p.m. on that day.

Prescription Refills

If one of our physicians was the original prescribing physician, we will approve the prescription refills provided you are an active patient (seen within the last year).  If you need a refill on a routine medication, please have your pharmacist call our office for approval of the refill.

Lab Results

We want you to be aware of all results of labs/tests done through our office.  Therefore, it is our practice to communicate all results to our patients.  In general it takes about 3-4 weeks to get results back, reviewed by the physician responsible and results to the patient.  Results are usually sent to the patient by mail.  If you had labs or studies ordered by another physician, please request results from that office.

For UTMB employees, it is against hospital policy to have anyone look up your labs unless they are actively involved in providing your care.  That means yourself, spouses, co-workers, acquaintances, relatives, etc. cannot look up lab results for you.  Hospital policy aside, we also find that patients frequently do not have the knowledge base to interpret results correctly, causing unnecessary anxiety.

Patient Feedback

As a result of your visit today, you may be randomly selected to receive a Medical Practice Survey in the mail.  If you do receive one of the surveys, we would appreciate you completing the form and returning it using the self-addressed envelope.  The postage is free, and it will just take a few minutes of your time.  This allows us to measure and improve upon any issues that you, the patient, may experience.  Your opinion means a lot to us.
