Portable Document Format (PDF) Playbook
Overview
PDFs are tricky to remediate. Try to use a web page or Microsoft Office native formats first if you can, if that isn't an option then the PDF needs to be made accessible. Why? Because the way PDFs are created is they make an image out of a document. As we know, images of text aren't accessible --so to make a PDF accessible, it is the equivalent of creating alt text for each component in the file:
- Headings
- Image alt text
- Forms
- Page content
- Reading order
