A switch is a positive technology device that replaces the need to use a keyboard or mouse. A switch can be operated by almost any body part hat is able to produce consistent and voluntary movement and is most often used by individuals with severe physical or cognitive impairment.

Switches come in a variety of shapes and sizes depending on the action used to activate them (sip-puff, pushing, pulling, blinking, squeezing). A switch control will general cycle focus through a virtual keyboard or UI menu, which is then selected by the user by whatever means they can interact with the device.
