Academy Director


Sunil_JainThe Office of Faculty Affairs and Professional Development (OFAPD) is pleased to announce that Sunil K. Jain, MD has been appointed director of the UTMB Academy of Master Clinicians (AMC).

Dr. Jain, a Professor in the Department of Pediatrics, Division of Neonatology, joined UTMB in 2006 and has been a member of AMC since its inception. He currently serves as the Neonatal Perinatal Fellowship Director, working with the Maternal-Fetal Medicine and Neonatology teams to ensure high-quality care for pregnant mothers and neonates.

The AMC at UTMB was established in 2014 to recognize and promote distinction in all clinical domains by fostering excellence in patient-centric care, with a commitment to developing future leaders through the tenets of the art of healing, empathy, education, scientific rigor, professionalism, mentorship and collaborative team work. Membership in AMC is the highest clinical recognition and honor for UTMB clinicians, and is a commitment to leadership in exceptional patient care.

As director, Dr. Jain will provide leadership in developing a strategic vision focused on collaborations in improving the UTMB’s clinical mission, and working closely with the Academy of Research Mentors (ARM) and Academy of Master Teachers (AMT) in mentoring clinicians, educators, scholars and scientists. We look forward to working with him to provide development and enrichment opportunities for our outstanding clinical faculty.

Academy Co-Director


The Office of Faculty Affairs and Professional Development (OFAPD) is pleased to announce that Laith Alzweri, MD has been appointed co-director of the UTMB Academy of Master Clinicians (AMC).

Dr. Alzweri, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery, Division of Urology, joined UTMB in 2019. He currently serves as the Director of Men & Health and Male Reconstruction Division of Urology, Department of Surgery

As co-director, Dr. Alzweri will assist Dr. Jain and leadership in developing a strategic vision focused on collaborations in improving the UTMB’s clinical mission and working closely with the Academy of Research Mentors (ARM) and Academy of Master Teachers (AMT) in mentoring clinicians, educators, scholars, and scientists. We look forward to working with him to provide development and enrichment opportunities for our outstanding clinical faculty.
