2008 AMT Lifetime Achievement Award

Dr. Linda R. Rounds is the Betty Lee Evans Professor of Nursing in the UTMB School of Nursing. Currently, she is the Program Coordinator for the online Doctor of Nursing Practice program. Dr. Rounds has been involved in the education of nurse practitioners since 1984 and has been instrumental in the development of distance education for nurse practitioner education – initially with broadcast and more recently with online courses.

She has been the recipient of numerous federal grants to support the development of innovative educational programs including online continuing education in geriatrics and in cultural competence. She has consulted nationally and internationally in the area of curriculum development for nurse practitioner education. Her publications and presentations are primarily in the areas of education and geriatrics.

Dr. Rounds is a member of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society, the National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties, the National Conference of Gerontological Nurse Practitioners, and several other professional organizations. In addition to her membership in the UTMB Academy of Master Teachers, Dr. Rounds was also a founding member of the University of Texas System Academy of Health Science Educators. She has also been honored with a number of awards including selection as a Fellow in the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, the Nurse Practitioner Educator of the Year award from the National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties, the Sigma Theta Tau-Alpha Delta Chapter Excellence in Nursing Education Award and Excellence in Leadership Award, and the inaugural School of Nursing Eisenhauer-Biegert award for caring, innovative, and humanistic education. She also was inducted into the Academy of Master Teachers in 2007.
