The Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology has 19 primary faculty, 4 staff members and over 100 students, fellow and scientists. These individuals work on a broad range of topics from fundamental problems in of biology, biochemistry and biophysics to applied solutions for medically important problems. Among the disciplinary strengths of the department are computational biology, DNA replication and repair, mechanobiology, molecular virology, RNA biology and structural biology. The department benefits from a large cadre of secondary faculty, which enhance the intellectual life of the department and from a very close relationship with the Sealy Center for Structural Biology and Molecular Biophysics.

The Biochemistry, Cellular and Molecular Biology Graduate Program, which includes Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Track, Cell Biology Track and Structural Biology and Biophysics Track, is designed to prepare students for careers investigating the molecular nature of biomedical phenomena and translating that knowledge to improve human health. Our curriculum provides training in cutting edge technology, critical thinking, and verbal and written communication skills, preparing graduates to be fully competitive for positions in various career paths.
