The Program confers PhD degrees for basic biomedical research in the areas of biochemistry, cell and molecular biology, structural biology, bioinformatics, and computational biology.
The goals of the program are for each student to develop a broad and quantitative understanding of modern biology with relevance to human health. All students take BBSC core courses in Cell Biology, Biochemistry, and Molecular Biology and Genetics, advanced courses offered by BCMB (BCMB courses), and electives tailored to the needs of the student. These courses prepare the students to develop independent multidisciplinary research projects under the mentoring of exceptional supervisory professors. These phenomenal research opportunities afforded students are enhanced by the recreational/cultural attractions of our resort island community on the Gulf Coast.
