Unlock The Secrets to Successful Grant Writing! - FY26 (second round)

The Office of Faculty Development and the Advancing Research through Mentorship (ARM) Program have teamed up with Karl Keller, principal at Communication Partners, to provide a second five-session technical and scientific writing workshop designed to equip you with the tools, strategies, and confidence to craft compelling grant proposals that stand out.

This interactive workshop will demystify the grant writing process, offering practical guidance on:

  • Structuring a persuasive and polished proposal
  • Avoiding common mistakes that derail applications
  • Communicating your science with clarity and impact

This writing workshop is designed for active participation. Sessions will not be recorded. Attendance at all five sessions is essential to fully benefit from this experience.

REQUIREMENTS

A draft document, ideally a grant submission or resubmission in progress is required for all sessions. The expectation is that participants will work on drafts between sessions and provide updated drafts of writing each week.

This is an interactive writing workshop.

As a participant, you will engage in peer review, writing, and editing and will share your work with fellow attendees. You will learn to be a better writer by writing and revising your own material.

SESSIONS

  1. Tuesday, April 21:  The Rhetorical Patterns of an Aims Page (Zoom)
  2. Tuesday, April 28:  The Logic Flow of Aims (Zoom)
  3. Tuesday, May 5:     Live Edit (In-person at UTMB)
  4. Tuesday, May 12:  The ‘’Ladder of Abstraction” and Eight Principles for Effective Writing (Zoom)
  5. Tuesday, May 19:  Titles, the “Big Structure,” and NIH Criteria (Zoom)
