SMART Family Literacy will resume vegetable gardening classes for families again in March.
Also, we will also hold a conference for early childhood educators on March 21st at Moody Gardens. We are planning a smoothie tasting station in the vendor area (Dr. McKee ran this station last year). See below for details and share with anyone who might be able to join us and help reach our youngest children with heart-healthy activities.

FAMILY GARDENING AND FOOD TASTING CLASSES
Venue: The Ranch (SMART Family Literacy's garden)

Time: 4pm-6pm
Dates: March 7th, March 14th, March 28th
Capacity: 6 volunteers on each date
Sched Description: UTMB Volunteers will help SMART staff teach families with young children how to grow their own food. We will harvest and taste what we pick. We will teach how to make a salad or a smoothie at the SMART Garden. If you don't already know what to do, no worries, because we will show you. Text Liz at (409) 771-4155 if you have questions. MAKE SMOOTHIES AT OUR TEACHERS' CONFERENCE

Sched Description: Make smoothies during the lunch break of our annual teachers' conference at the Moody Gardens Conference Center. Inspire teachers to eat more healthily and to teach their own students to do the same. Healthy habits, such as eating heart-healthy vegetables and fruits, starts early, so we need you to reach out to the caregivers and teachers who influence the youngest children.

Sched Description: Volunteers will help set up and take down the party, greet and check families in, and help children with various hands-on activities (plant/water the garden, do art in the garden, harvest, make giant bubbles etc).

Sched Description: Park along 52nd Street and text Paula at 409-599-0894 upon arrival. Volunteers will help set up and take down the party, greet and check families in, help children do art and science activities, make smoothies, and other hands-on activities.
