Physicians honored as Rising Stars represent the top 2.5% of Texas physicians who have been practicing for approximately ten years or less.

The Family Medicine Interest Group (FMIG) will host its annual "Strolling Through the Match" event on Thursday, July 18 at 5:30pm in the Primary Care Pavilion's upstairs conference room, 2.268. The event is open to all UTMB medical students and attendees do not need to be interested in family medicine.

Jerry Kruse, MD, MSPH presented a Family Medicine Grand Rounds on Thursday, June 6, 2013. Dr. Kruse's lecture was attended by faculty and residents from the UTMB Health Department of Family Medicine as well as guests from around UTMB Health.

The UTMB Health Department of Family Medicine is pleased and proud to announce that all seven of our third-year residents in our Family Medicine Residency Program have successfully taken and passed the American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM) board examination.

The Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) recently renewed accreditation of the UTMB Health Family Medicine Residency Program for an additional four years.

Naomi Jamal, MD, a first-year resident in the Family Medicine Residency Program, was recognized May 30, 2013 as a 2012-2013 Outstanding 1st Year Resident Award nominee.

The UTMB Health Department of Family Medicine hosted its annual Resident Research Day on May 30 in the Primary Care Pavilion. Seven posters were presented, and three research teams also gave presentations on their projects.

The UTMB Health Department of Family Medicine is pleased to announce that Jerry E. Kruse, MD, MSPH will be presenting a Family Medicine Grand Rounds on June 6, 2013. Dr. Kruse is CEO of Southern Illinois University Healthcare (SIU HealthCare) and is President of the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine (STFM).

On May 8th, 2013 the Family Medicine Clinic in Dickinson hosted an Open House to show off their new clinic space to the League City, Dickinson and UTMB Health community. The event was well-attended and the physicians, nurses and staff were there to offer tours and share all the wonderful work they do.

Several UTMB Health Department of Family Medicine employees were honored at this year's UTMB Health Employee Service Day ceremony, for having reached milestones. We're so proud of them all, and would like to add our congratulations.

The UTMB Health Family Medicine Interest Group (FMIG) held a Match Day Panel on Wednesday, March 27, 2013. The panel discussion, open to all UTMB School of Medicine students, featured a panel of senior medical students discussing the residency program application and interview process.

The UTMB Health Family Medicine Interest Group (FMIG) is planning a Helping Hands event on March 23, 2013. The group of medical students, along with some faculty members and residents, will spend the day volunteering their time at local free clinics, including the Luke Society Medical Mission to the Homeless' open-air clinic and the St. Vincent's House Free Clinic.
