About Me

Dr. Jana joined UTMB’s Department of Family Medicine & Community Health in 2011. She currently serves as an Associate Professor and Medical Director of Family Medicine Clinic – Dickinson.

Dr. Jana earned a Bachelor of Arts from Vassar College and a Doctor of Medicine from John A. Burns School of Medicine at the University of Hawaii at Manoa.  She completed family medicine internship and residency training at the University of Illinois at Chicago .  Following residency, she served in the US Air Force as a physician.  Dr. Jana has also completed a geriatric medicine fellowship at the Albert Einstein Medical Center; and an integrative medicine fellowship at the Arizona Center for Integrative Medicine at the University of Arizona.  Dr. Jana was the 2016-2017 Manning Fellow in Geriatrics.

Dr. Jana is certified by the American Board of Family Medicine with Certificate of Added Qualifications in Geriatric Medicine.  She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians and certified by the American Board of Integrative Holistic Medicine.

Dr. Jana's interests include geriatric and integrative medicine; and medical student and resident education.

Thank you for your interest in the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB Health) Integrative and Behavioral Medicine Fellowship!

We believe that Integrative Medicine and Behavioral Medicine pair synergistically in fostering wellness and delivering a patient-centered integrative approach to care. The overarching goal of our fellowship is to produce physicians who are knowledgeable of the bio-psycho-social dynamics that affect wellness, have skills to elucidate patient's values, desires, and health goals, and are equipped to approach patient care from a holistic and patient-centered perspective. They will learn to utilize integrative and behavioral modalities to serve as healers and advisers to patients and to become leaders in their community and within the medical profession.

Program Highlights

  • 13-block (1 year) curriculum
  • Develop personalized plan of study
  • Varied learning opportunities, including didactics, readings, online modules,
    one-on-one sessions with faculty, teaching residents and students
  • Funded travel to outside conferences, CME, and academic meetings
  • Practice in one of three ambulatory clinics offering patients a full array
    of services
  • Integrated medical care teams, including faculty, fellows, residents,
    advanced practice clinicians, and nurses

Past Fellow Becomes Faculty

Dr. Janicki joined the Department of Family Medicine in 2024. He is a board certified family physician at the Famil Medicine Clinic – Island West. Dr. Janicki earned his Bachelor of Science Biomedical Engineering from Texas A&M University in Bryan, Texas and his Doctorate of Medicine from The University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas. Dr. Janicki n completed his residency training with the University of Arizona Family Medicine Residency Program in Tucson, Arizona and remained as an assistant professor as part of their faculty until completed his Integrative and Behavioral Health Fellowship at UTMB.

Dr. Janicki currently serves The Department of Family Medicine as Director of the Family Medicine Hospital Service.

Dr. Janicki is certified in Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).

Dr. Janicki's research and clinical interests are Teaching Kitchen's offering culinary health education, Integrative Medicine and Acupuncture.

Our program has several faculty with areas of expertise related to Integrative Medicine including, but not limited to, women's health, integrative oncology, bio-behavioral medicine, geriatrics, nutrition, botanicals, and acupuncture.

We also have behavioral medicine faculty and clinical staff with specialized skills in applying the principles and practice of behavioral medicine in the primary care setting.

Eligibility

Eligible candidates will have:

  • Completed a primary care residency training program
  • Have a full unrestricted medical license to practice in Texas
  • Be certified in Family Medicine by the American Board of Family Medicine OR
  • Anticipate earning certification by the completion of the fellowship
  • Demonstrate a long-term interest in the study and practice of both Integrative Medicine and Behavioral Medicine through prior training, practice, and clinically relevant experiences
