A PERSONAL NOTE FROM DR. ROY
Hi, my name is Sukanya Roy and I was born in California and raised in Portland, Oregon. I went to college at the University of Rochester in New York where I studied neuroscience and psychology and found my way to Texas to be with my family for my gap year when I worked as a dermatology medical assistant in Dallas. I ended up falling in love with Texas and decided to go to medical school at UNT Health Science Center/TCOM. I knew I wanted to be near a body of water as well as a big city so Galveston ended up being a perfect place for me to complete my residency!
Throughout medical school, I realized that I wanted to work with women, children, as well as the geriatric population so family medicine incorporated everything and ended up being the perfect specialty for me.
I chose UTMB because from the very first interaction I had during the meet and greet, I could tell how supportive everyone was. I truly felt like the faculty and residents interacted like they were family. After joining this program I realized how lucky I am to truly be here as I have such wonderful colleagues who don't make work feel like work.
My interests outside of medicine include dancing, acrylic painting, and hiking.
