The Department of Internal Medicine has a diverse and robust research enterprise that reaches across the translational spectrum. From basic physiology, and cellular and molecular studies in humans, to interventional clinical trials, and disease outcome investigations, the Department of Internal Medicine has investigations and investigators advancing the boundaries of medical science. In the past fiscal year, the Department received almost $6 million in federal funding, and nearly $3 million sourced from other agencies. At present, there are 225 active projects within the Department of Internal Medicine. At least 38 of our faculty have submitted applications for external funding of their work, and additional faculty are involved as active collaborators. Investigators in the Department submitted 85 applications during this fiscal year – a testament to the work ethic and performance of these talented researchers. In addition, post-doctoral fellows and staff researchers have been awarded training grants, travel grants, and fellowship recognition awards.
