Overview
Currently the UTMB Police Department employs commissioned police officers, public safety officers and telecommunicators along with support and administrative personnel. Officers are commissioned by the University of Texas System Board of Regents and licensed
by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement after they have successfully completed the state mandated training curriculum. The primary jurisdiction of peace officers commissioned by the University of Texas System Police includes all counties in which
property is owned, leased, rented, or otherwise under the control of the University of Texas System.
Commissioned police officers and public safety officers are assigned to shifts to patrol the four UTMB campuses (League City, Angleton, Clear Lake, and Galveston) 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The number of personnel on duty at any given time varies
with the changing needs of the campus.
Police Officer Minimum Requirements
The applicant must have reached his/her 21st birthday, on date of commissioning. Must have a high school diploma or passed a General Educational Development test. Applicants with military service must have an honorable discharge. Must be able to pass
physical requirements (vision, hearing, general health).
Must meet the minimum standards for appointment as required by the Texas Occupations Code, the Texas Administrative Code, and the Rules of the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement.

- Three-12 hr. + one 4 hr. Workdays per week (totaling 40 hrs. per week) with 3.5 RDOs weekly

Compensation
UTMB Police Department provides competitive salaries based on experience. Currently, law enforcement salaries are paid at or above the State of Texas "Class C Schedule", which is used by other State law enforcement agencies such as DPS.
