Dear UTMB community,
As violence continues to unfold in the Middle East following the weekend’s deadly attacks on Israel, UTMB unequivocally extends our support and comfort to the members of our community affected by these events.
It is a painful, devastating and frightening time for many, and our hearts go out to our community members most closely affected by the war and to anyone else who is experiencing emotional turmoil as a result of these troubling events. UTMB stands firm in condemning any type of war, and denouncing hate in all forms, including racism, antisemitism, and Islamophobia. Any incidents of harassment, violence, or any other discriminatory behavior will not be tolerated.
We proudly uphold a university community that is respectful of all cultures, races, and religions, and we pledge support for all our students and colleagues any time we must process painful and difficult situations. We want you to know you are supported, and we are committed to keeping you safe on our campuses.
If you are in need of mental health support, please use the resources that UTMB makes available to its students and employees, or contact your physician for a mental health referral. As an institution focused on the health of our communities, we must not forget our own wellness needs.
Please take care of yourselves and each other, and be sure to extend compassion generously during this trying time.
