A message from the president:

Cybersecurity is a shared responsibility

Dear UTMB Colleagues,

UTMB recognizes that cyberattacks are among the greatest risks facing our institution and other academic medical centers today. For that reason, we’re continuously enhancing our security measures, investing in advanced technologies, and offering training to mitigate these risks.

However, technology alone cannot protect us. Your active participation in cybersecurity initiatives and training is crucial to maintaining our resilience. Cybersecurity is not solely an IT responsibility—it’s a shared duty. Everyone must be vigilant, informed, and proactive. Fostering a culture of security is not optional but essential.

In the coming days, UTMB Chief Information Security Officer John Flores will share details about our “Bring Your Own Device” initiative. The BYOD program ensures personal devices connected to UTMB networks are operated securely, helping us better protect against threats.

Together, we can meet these challenges and confidently advance our mission. Thank you for your attention to this vital issue and your ongoing dedication to caring for our communities.

Sincerely,

Jochen Reiser, MD, PhD
