A message from the president:

May 11 - 15: Honoring Our People During Health System and Nurses Week

Five healthcare staff in scrubs and lab coats, some wearing stethoscopes, against a light blue background. UTMB logos are visible on two lab coats.

Each May, Health System and Nurses Week offers an opportunity to pause and recognize the people who make our mission at UTMB possible. Across our hospitals, clinics, research and education environments, and support teams, UTMB employees serve patients and communities at some of the most important moments in their lives.

The care people experience at UTMB Health extends beyond medical expertise alone. It is shaped by professionalism, teamwork, and a shared commitment to serving others with respect and purpose. From bedside caregivers to those supporting care behind the scenes, every role contributes to the trust our patients place in us and the outcomes we achieve together.

Health System and Nurses Week highlights the shared purpose that guides our teams and the role each individual plays in shaping the patient experience. It reflects the belief that high‑quality care is built through consistency, collaboration, and a deep sense of responsibility to those we serve.

To all who contribute to patient care and the patient experience across UTMB, thank you. Your dedication and professionalism make a difference every day—for our patients, their families, and our communities.

This is truly Where Purpose Meets Passion.

With appreciation,

Jochen Reiser, MD, PhD
