Patient Advocates & Language Services
Patient Advocates
During the hospital stay, our patients may need to speak with someone who understands hospital procedures and will assist them and their families with non-medical problems or concerns. Our Patient Advocate Specialists are familiar with all services provided by the hospital and will assist in answering questions that may arise during your stay.
Patient Advocate Specialists are available 8 a.m. - 5 p.m., Monday - Friday, by dialing (409) 772-4772
While typically not at off-campus clinic locations, UTMB Patient Advocates are also available to assist patients of UTMB's clinics.
Language Services
Foreign language interpreters are available for patients who prefer to discuss health care information in a language other than English. If you need an interpreter, please ask a member of your health care team.
Effective communication with patients and families is critical to ensuring high quality patient care. UTMB Health is committed to ensuring that individuals with Limited English Proficiency (LEP) and the hearing impaired have meaningful access to services and an equal opportunity to participate in services in accordance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. UTMB strives to meet the unique needs of populations served while appropriately managing available resources.
The Joint Commission requires that all clinical providers and staff who speak to patients and families in a second language during clinical interactions be validated for proficiency in that language. Ā
