Taking medications as prescribed is one of the most important steps you can take to maintain your health. The Embrace Medication Telehealth II Study is evaluating how a digital health app combined with medication education can help older adults manage their medications more effectively.

Join our research study at The University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) to learn how technology and pharmacist support can improve medication adherence and help you take control of your health.

Creaque Charles Tyler, PharmD, BCGP, Associate Professor of Pharmacy Practice, Texas Southern University, and UTMB Pepper Center REC Scholar is the Principal Investigator of this study.

Why Medication Adherence Matters

Many adults age 55 and older take five or more medications to manage multiple health conditions.

Taking medications on time helps ensure you receive the correct and consistent dose needed for treatment. Missing doses or taking medications at the wrong time can lead to:

  • Unwanted side effects
  • Worsening health conditions
  • Emergency room visits
  • Hospitalization
  • Increased healthcare costs
  • Preventable health complications

The Impact of Medication Non-Adherence

Medication non-adherence is a significant public health concern among older adults and is associated with poor health outcomes and avoidable healthcare utilization.

Nearly 50% of patients do not take their medications as prescribed.
Approximately 200,000 preventable deaths and hospitalizations occur annually due to medication non-adherence.
Up to $300 Billion is spent each year on healthcare costs associated with medication non-adherence, including additional medical appointments, emergency room visits, and hospitalizations.
