The CTD-SPECTRE 2nd Annual Symposium on Tropical and Emerging Infectious Diseases for Clinicians and Translational Scientists took place September 16–19, 2025 at the Grand Galvez Hotel in Galveston, Texas. Hosted by the UTMB Division of Infectious Diseases in collaboration with the Center for Tropical Diseases and the Special Pathogens Excellence in Clinical Treatment, Readiness, and Education (SPECTRE) Program, the symposium drew nearly 200 participants, including faculty, clinicians, postdoctoral fellows, and students. Attendees exchanged ideas, presented new research, and built collaborations in a field where discoveries directly influence how the world prepares for and responds to health threats.

The symposium featured keynote lectures, roundtable scenario discussions, oral presentations, and a poster session with more than 70 posters presented. These sessions highlighted advances in understanding and addressing diseases that continue to test global health systems. By creating space for trainees and senior investigators to connect, the symposium encouraged knowledge-sharing that is critical to preparing for future outbreaks. Awards were also presented to recognize outstanding contributions, with three poster awards of $100 each and four oral presentation awards of $200 each.

This year’s symposium underscored the essential role of UTMB in bringing together experts who are shaping the future of infectious disease research and preparedness. The symposium not only honored individual achievements but also reinforced the collective effort needed to protect public health.
