On October 16, 2026, UTMB’s Special Pathogens Excellence in Clinical Treatment, Readiness & Education (SPECTRE) program will host Regional Frontline High-Consequence Infectious Disease (HCID) Response Training in Galveston, Texas.
This full-day, in-person course moves beyond the basics with interactive learning, hands-on activities, and realistic scenarios designed to turn preparedness into practice.
Participants will:
- Apply the Identify–Isolate–Inform approach to potential HCID cases
- Recognize clinical and epidemiological clues that should raise concern
- Practice PPE selection, donning, and doffing
- Work through infection prevention and contamination challenges
- Apply HCID preparedness principles through realistic scenarios
As the Regional Emerging Special Pathogen Treatment Center (RESPTC) for HHS Region 6, UTMB works with healthcare facilities across Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, and Oklahoma to strengthen readiness for emerging and special pathogen threats.
