What the talk will cover

Professor Fazel’s research examines adverse outcomes among people with mental illness, including suicide and self-harm. He has led major studies of prison mental health and developed risk assessment tools used internationally in prison, probation and forensic mental health services.

About Professor Seena Fazel

Professor Seena Fazel is Professor of Forensic Psychiatry and Director of the Centre for Suicide Research at the University of Oxford. His research focuses on adverse outcomes among people with mental illness, including suicide, self-harm, violence and crime.

Professor Fazel holds an honorary appointment with Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust. After working for more than 13 years as a visiting psychiatrist in a local prison, he now works clinically in a community forensic psychiatry service. He is also an expert member of the Independent Advisory Panel on Deaths in Custody, which advises the UK Government.
