Center for Correctional Healthcare Excellence Inaugural Annual Symposium

Correctional healthcare sits at the intersection of medicine, public health, ethics, health equity and public safety. How should that care be designed, delivered and measured — and what would it take to do it well at scale?

The University of Texas Medical Branch Center for Correctional Healthcare Excellence (CCHE) hosts its inaugural annual symposium on Friday, August 7, 2026, at The San Luis Resort, Spa & Conference Center in Galveston. The symposium convenes clinicians, researchers, policymakers, correctional administrators and public health experts for a full day of dialogue on the future of correctional healthcare delivery, with a focus on innovative, patient-centered, evidence-based and high-value care models for justice-involved populations.

Program focus

Presentations and panel discussions will address:

• Innovations in correctional healthcare delivery
• Infectious diseases and public health in carceral settings
• Mental health and substance use disorders
• Chronic disease management and specialty care access
• Telemedicine and digital health transformation
• Health systems operations and quality improvement
• Correctional healthcare policy, ethics and research
• Reentry medicine and continuity of care
