Congratulations to our 2026 PhD in Bioethics and Health Humanities graduates from UTMB's School of Public and Population Health (SPPH): Hannah Carpenter and Georgia Loutrianakis.
The PhD prepares scholars to engage the moral, philosophical, historical, and cultural dimensions of health, medicine, and the body. Drawing on philosophy, law, history, literature, and the social sciences, graduates produce scholarship that shapes how clinicians, policymakers, and the public reason about hard health questions. Both dissertations this year took up reproductive autonomy in different registers, one examining clinical practice and research trials, the other examining the role of trust and gender norms in legislation.
Special recognition to Hannah Carpenter, recipient of the SPPH Excellence in Research and Scholarship Award.
