Michael L. Goodman, MDiv, MPH, DrPH, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Population Health and Health Disparities at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) School of Public and Population Health. His work focuses on how communities, health systems, and social environments shape health and well-being, with particular interests in community resilience, social connection, health disparities, and the development of scalable approaches to improving population health.
Dr. Goodman’s research spans the United States and international settings and emphasizes community-engaged research, implementation science, and the translation of evidence into practical interventions. Earlier in his career, Dr. Goodman helped develop and evaluate community-based approaches to supporting the reintegration of street-involved children and families, work that helped shape his broader interest in designing practical, multilevel solutions to complex health and social challenges. His work increasingly explores the use of artificial intelligence, digital technologies, and community-level data to strengthen public health decision-making and connect individuals and communities with appropriate resources and support.
Across his academic and applied work, Dr. Goodman is particularly interested in developing interventions that operate across multiple levels - from individuals and families to social networks, organizations, communities, and health systems - and in understanding the conditions that allow people and communities to flourish.
