Dr. Mandy Hill is a dedicated public health practitioner who serves as Professor and Inaugural Chair of the Department of Population Health and Health Disparities at the School of Public and Population Health at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston (UTMB). Dr. Hill is the Centennial Chair in Preventive Medicine and Community Health. She earned her DrPH in Disease Control, with minor concentrations in Health Promotion and Health Management and Policy, at the UTHealth Houston School of Public Health in 2007.
With more than 20 years of research experience spanning clinical and community settings, Dr. Hill advances population health through scholarship, intervention development, mentorship, and academic leadership. As Chair, she leads a multidisciplinary department whose work addresses complex population health challenges and expands the reach of research, education, and practice across communities and healthcare systems.
Dr. Hill’s research focuses on HIV prevention, sexual health communication, and the development and implementation of culturally relevant behavioral interventions. Her work examines how person-centered decision-making, healthcare access, provider communication, and social and structural drivers influence the adoption and sustained use of effective prevention strategies, including pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP). Central to her scholarship is a commitment to translating research into practical approaches that are responsive to the lived experiences of the populations they are intended to serve.
Across her academic portfolio, Dr. Hill demonstrates a sustained commitment to developing future population and public health leaders through research, education, mentorship, and service. Her work is grounded in Texas communities while contributing to population health scholarship, practice, and leadership nationally and globally.
