Galveston County Daily News (Internet / Print) 06/04/06 Letter to the Editor: It’s interesting to me that the University of Texas Medical Branch has to hire consultants to determine how to increase the private patient sector. A conscious decision was made some years ago to combine all medical services and clinics regardless of ability to pay. I support and applaud the good work and help UTMB provides to the needy and indigent. But it should have been the UTMB administration, (not some paid consultants) that came up with the idea of returning to improve services. It provides some incentive for those who are fortunate enough to have decent jobs — those who go out and work hard to keep those jobs so they can pay for their own care — to come to UTMB for the services. They have excellent physicians and nurses who work there.
