INVEST: Houston Leadership Summit
Vineet Gupta, PhD, presented "UTMB- Fostering Cutting-Edge Science Innovation," spotlighting UTMB's involvement and drive in leading the growing Houston ecosystem. 

State of the Texas Medical Center
This annual event highlights the progress and future of the TMC. UTMB President and UTMB Health System CEO Jochen Reiser, MD, PhD and UTMB faculty were in attendance with William McKeon, CEO and President of the Texas Medical Center. Mr. McKeon served as key speaker of the event, celebrating the growth and delivery of life sciences in the World's Largest Medical Center.

The 14th Annual Texas Life Science Forum delivered another exceptional year of connection, innovation, and momentum for the life science community. This event continues to be a cornerstone for founders, investors, researchers, and industry leaders, and this year’s conversations and collaborations showed just how much potential is growing here in Texas.

From engaging panel discussions to thoughtful investor conversations and standout company pitches, this year’s Forum showcased the depth of talent and the ambition driving our region forward. UTMB's Fernanda Laezza, MD, PhD, was awarded the prestigious Michael DeBakey Award.

Galveston Economic Partnership Annual Summit 
The Innovation Team proudly represented our organization at the Galveston Economic Development Partnership Annual Summit, hosted at Texas A&M University Galveston Campus. The summit brought together business leaders, educators, researchers, and policymakers to explore strategies that advance Galveston’s economic growth, sustainability, and innovation ecosystem.

The University of Texas Medical Branch featured a remarkable panel with Jochen Reiser, MD, PhD; Vineet Gupta, PhD; Shikha Wadhwani, MD, MS, FASN; Harsh Thaker, MD, PhD; Craig Kovacevich, MA; and Peter McCaffrey, MD, MS, FCAP highlighting how UTMB is leveraging artificial intelligence and emerging technologies today to enhance research, healthcare delivery, and operational efficiency — and to explore what the next era of innovation will bring.

The event provided valuable insights into how innovation can continue to shape the future of the Galveston region and strengthen partnerships across academia and industry.

    An Immersive Experience at the State Capitol

    In March, UTMB School of Nursing Policy & Leadership and Health Advocacy Honors students traveled to Austin for an immersive experience at the intersection of nursing and public policy.

    Faculty members from the Department of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Sciences were recognized by the Physical Therapy Learning Institute.

  • Dean David Vines and six representatives from the Occupational Therapy team hold a banner recognizing OT Month outside the SHP/SON Building.

    SHP Professional Observances

    The School of Health Professions recognized faculty and students in two departments in April, observing Occupational Therapy Month and Medical Laboratory Professionals Week.
