Application Process
- Visit the Allied Health Centralized Application Service (AHCAS) and sign in or create an account. New applicants should create an online account. Returning applicants should login and complete the application.
- Submit all official transcripts to AHCAS. Do not send them to UTMB.
- Complete and submit your AHCAS application as soon as possible. After your AHCAS application is in the verified status, UTMB will send an email to the applicant with the link for the supplemental application ($40). Your application will not be processed until the supplemental application is completed.
- Once received, applicants will be given a UTMB ID number to access MyStar. Please allow several weeks for processing.
- The admissions committee will review the application and invite top candidates for a virtual interview. The interview lasts approximately 45 minutes, and all applicants are asked the same questions.
- Once a decision has been made by the admissions committee, you will be notified via email.
- Once accepted, all selected students will be required to undergo a background check for security clearance and pass a drug screen to matriculate at UTMB and other off-campus clinical training facilities.

Prerequisites
Applicants must:
- Graduate from a CoARC-accredited respiratory care or respiratory therapy program
- Hold an Associate of Science or Associate of Arts degree
- Have a minimum GPA of 2.5
- Hold a current, unexpired Registered Respiratory Therapist credential from the National Board for Respiratory Care
- Students must also have completed the 42-credit-hour Texas Core Curriculum with a grade of "C" or higher before graduating from the BSRT program. To check if your courses meet our prerequisite credits, visit our Core Curriculum Policy.

Transfer Credits
Practicing registered respiratory therapists who hold an active RRT credential may receive up to 54 credit hours for prior learning. Additional coursework completed as part of an associate degree may be applied toward the Texas Core Curriculum, depending on the student’s transcript evaluation.

Accepted students receive a formal offer of admission with instructions for confirming their place in the program. The offer also includes links to checklists that guide students through the enrollment process.
