Marcela Lizarraga, PA (ASCP), PhD. is an Assistant Professor and the Director of the Pathologists’ Assistant Program in the Department of Clinical Laboratory Science in the School of Health Professions (SHP) at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB).

Dr. Lizarraga received a Bachelor of Arts in Biology from Rutgers University, a Doctor of Philosophy in Pathology – Study of Glioblastoma Multiforme in an Animal Model, from Columbia University, and a Master of Health Science in Pathologists’ Assistant from Loma Linda University.

Dr. Lizarraga served as the Lead Pathologists’ Assistant at East Carolina University for 4 years and has over 10 years of experience in academic and industry settings. Her teaching experience expands over her entire career training students from high school to medical school and residents.
