The advisor will make sure students are taking required classes and help connect students with appropriate projects and experiences.

PhD/MA

PhD/MA students are assigned a faculty advisor when entering the program. The advisor will inquire about student’s academic and career goals, make sure students are taking required classes, advise on possible elective courses, and help identify a faculty mentor. Students will identify and declare a mentor that will serve as their thesis/dissertation chair (by year 2 for PhD students and the second semester for MA students). Once identified, the mentor meets with the student regularly to make sure the student is making adequate progress on their dissertation or thesis, contributing to publications or other scholarly works, and acquiring the skills needed for the student’s career development and goals.
