Director, Texas AHEC East & Global Health Education
Dr. Satterfield is the Director of the Texas AHEC (Area Health Education Centers) for the Eastern region of Texas. In this role Dr. Satterfield oversees the program office, housed at UTMB, and eight regional centers in East Texas communities. With Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) funding, Texas AHEC East (TAE) has launched a new program called AHEC Scholars, designed to recruit and retain health professions students in rural and underserved areas by providing additional didactic and experiential training. In addition to her work with TAE, Dr. Satterfield serves as the Director of Global Health Education, In this role she facilitates the strategic mission of the Collaborating Center for Global Health by overseeing the global health education training program at UTMB, including the School of Medicine Global Health Track, Global Health Inter-professional Core Course, curriculum design/development/implementation, and global health electives for medical students. Dr. Satterfield provides oversight for global health operations for international travel, elective credit documentation, in-country logistics support at UTMB field sites, and provides pre-departure orientations for traveling students. In addition, she contributes to educational research within the Center with specific interests in global health preparation curriculum, mentorship, and research skills training in global health.
