Social factors that prevent utilization of free eye care camps and surgeries in South India. Janani Sundaresan. This study was aimed at determining factors associated with the poor uptake of eye care services in India.

Knowledge, Attitudes, and Practices Related to Childhood Nutrition: A Community-Based Study in a District of Lima, Peru. Cara Pritchett, Ana Garces-Wood, Allison Smith, Catherine Donat, Gladys Valdiviezo, Theresa Ochoa. Our primary aim is to evaluate nutrition-related KAP among mothers of children in Pamplona Alta, located in the resource-poor district of San Juan de Miraflores (Lima).

Investigation of Suicide Attempts in Meru County, Kenya. Derrick Gibson, Gwen Lin, Kerry O’Leary, Janki Patel, Katherine Porter, Michael Goodman. Objective is to investigate the most common causes of suicide ideation in males aged 18-35 years old due to an observed increase in suicide by clinicians practicing at Maua Methodist Hospital in Maua, Meru County, Kenya.

Effect of Specialty Care on Fetal Mortality in Rural East African Mission Hospital 2014-2015. Sara Journeay, Julio Santiago Perez, Dr. Luyimbaazi Julius Kisaasa, Dr. Philip Keiser, Dr. Gingo Stephen. Aim is to determine whether the addition of an obstetrician to the hospital staff has helped decrease the fetal mortality rate of the hospital.

Outcomes of Neonates Based on Decision-to-Delivery Intervals and Mother’s Admission Status in Fort Portal, Uganda. Julie Nguyen, Daniel O’Brien, Philip Keiser. The objective of this study was to retrospectively determine the outcomes of neonates born via EmC/S in a setting in which the majority of D-I intervals greatly surpassed the 30 minute recommendation.

Assessing the Efficiency of Holy Family Virika Hospital in Fort Portal, Uganda: Application of Pabon Lasso Technique. Joyce H. Lee, Eric Nezerwa. The objective of this study is to assess the performance of the five wards at Virika Hospital using the Pabon Lasso Technique and to identify areas where improvements can be made.

Antibiotic-Bacteria Mismatch in an African Setting. Trent Fuller, Yasmine Khairandish, Lauren Lagrimas, Peter Young, Dr. Philip Keiser, Dr. Loice Achieng. This study analyzes the mismatch between antibacterial use and the target organism, and identifies the organisms most commonly mistreated.

Recombinase Polymerase Amplification Optimization to Detect Taenia solium DNA in Human Stools. Hayley K Rogers, Kelli A Bagwell, Jose L Malaga, Safa Maharsi, Patrick A Naeger, Dr. Miguel M Cabada. The aims of this project are to improve detection methods of T. solium in the field and to optimize an RPA protocol for the detection of T. solium.

Adaptation to lateral flow product detection of a recombinase polymerase amplification test (RPA-LF) to detect Fasciola hepatica in human stool. Patrick A. Naeger, Safa Maharsi, Jose L Malaga, Alejandro Castellanos-Gonzalez, A. Clinton White Jr., Miguel M Cabada. The purpose of this study was to determine if it is feasible to adapt a Fasciola RPA test to a lateral flow strip format that will provide highly sensitive results and will be applicable in resource-limited settings.

Mosquito Collection Detection of Zika Virus in Southeastern Dominican Republic. T Nunez, D Aragon, R Rubinstein, E Wang, M Dacso, S Weaver. The purpose of this study was to classify and determine prevalence of Zika Virus among mosquito populations in Southeastern Dominican Republic.

Establishing a protocol to demonstrate regulatory T cell induced downregulation of IL-5 response to larval Strongyloides stercoralis antigen in HTLV-1 and strongyloidiasis coinfected patients. Matthew LaCour, Anjali Muraleedharan, Nestor Vazquez, Martin Montes. Our purpose was to establish a method for isolating SS larval antigen and validate a Treg depletion assay from peripheral blood.

Immunological Impact of HTLV-1 on Latent Tuberculosis. Milena Lobaina, William Hertzing , Karen Luhmann , Nestor Vasquez, MD., Daniel Hoces, MD., Martin Montes, MD. The aims of this project are to (1) compare the spontaneous and TB antigen specific immunological responses in HTLV-1 positive and negative patients, and (2) describe the immunological profile of LTBi patients with and without HTLV-1 coinfection by measuring TB antigen specific cytokines.

Obstacles to the treatment and care of individuals with diabetes in low-middle income countries. Makenzie Kothmann. The purpose of this study is identifying current obstacles to the treatment of diabetic patients in low-middle income countries.

Comparison of the Mortality of Noncommunicable Diseases in Ecuador and the Americas. Morgan Kirkpatrick. This study compared the trends of mortality of NCDs in Ecuador to that of other countries in the Americas.

Fighting the rising trends in obesity in Ecuador. Lauren Correa. The purpose of this study was to determine if a faith-based intervention, working to equip and educate local faith communities, would be feasible to fight obesity in Ecuador.

Chamomile Cures: a literature review. Mauli Dalal. The present study aims to provide a comprehensive review on the current data assessing the traditional medicine uses of chamomile.

Insecticide resistant Triatominae and increased incidence of Chagas Disease. Jennifer Doran. The aim of this research is to elucidate contributing factors in poor control of Chagas disease in the Gran Chaco.
