COSTS

Global health experiences vary in price by field site. Please use the information below as a guide and estimate ONLY. Prices are subject to change without notice. Please verify all costs with the Center for Global Health Education for UTMB field sites or with the 3rd party program for non-UTMB field sites. Exclusions: airfare, visas, travel health consults, immunizations, prophylaxis, leisure travel/activities

Evacuation and International Travel Health Insurance: UTMB provides (free to students) for emergency evacuation and international travel health insurance for students participating in official, for-credit, UTMB activities.  Information on coverage can be found here.

Field Site Costs


La Romana General Rotation

Senior students are required to stay a minimum of 4 weeks. MS1 students are required to stay a minimum of 6 weeks during specific dates. Please see current MS1 information page for details. 

Program fee is payable to UTMB either by check or credit card.

The program fee includes: housing at Casa Pastoral (wifi in common areas), airport transfers, and ground transportation to UCE and bateyes for fieldwork.

Most meals are prepared and provided by Casa Pastoral. However, during times of low occupancy, you may be asked to prepare your own meals or dine out at your own expense.

4 Weeks: $1000 
6 Weeks: $1200

La Romana, Dominican Republic 
Clinica de Familia (MS4s only) 
Separate Application and Interview required and all payments are to CdF.

Cost Estimates: 
Airport Transfers: $25-$80 
Lodging at Casa International and Program Fee: $900/month 
(rate includes prepared breakfast on weekdays, wifi, and cable) 
Local Travel: $3/day or walk for free! 
Food (lunch/dinner/weekends): $5-$15/day

Additional expenses not included:
Visa: $10 (for U.S. Citizens) 
Airfare: $500-$800


Maua 
and Nairobi

Senior students are required to stay a minimum of 4 weeks.
MS1 students are required to stay a minimum of 6 weeks during specific dates. Please see current MS1 information page for details.
Program fee is payable to UTMB either by check or credit card.

The program fee includes: housing, airport transfers, and ground transportation to field sites from Nairobi and the return. The fee will also cover overnight housing in Nairobi on travel days (1 day prior to start of rotation and 1 day after rotation ends). Additional nights will be payable by the student while in Nairobi.

4 Weeks: $1260

At this time, CGHE is unable to administer logistics directly at Peru field sites except where noted.

All payments are made to the vendors by the student.

Lima

Cost Estimate—Total expenses for 6 weeks are approximately $1200 (excluding airfare)

Students have had great luck in finding affordable housing through VRBO and airbnb. Students should find accommodations in the Mira Flores District of Lima.


Cusco

Cost Estimate—Total expenses for 6 weeks are approximately $1200 (excluding airfare)
Housing (arranged by UTMB): Carzola’s Hostel $16/night/person

Some rooms are singles and others are doubles—sharable with other UTMB students.

Light Breakfast of breads, cheeses, coffee, and tea is included. There is a small refrigerator and microwave, but most students dine out at nearby eateries that range from very cheap to very expensive.

Rukungiri 
and Fort Portal

Senior students are required to stay a minimum of 4 weeks.

The program fee includes: housing, airport transfers, and ground transportation to field sites from Entebbe/Kampala and the return. The fee will also cover overnight housing in Entebbe/Kampala on travel days (2 days prior to start of rotation and 1 day after rotation ends). Additional nights will be payable by the student while in Uganda.
